SPRING LAKE — The Richmond Senior boys soccer team remained undefeated this season following a 2-0 victory over Overhills Wednesday night.

Armando Garcia scored both of the Raiders’ goals in the contest and Tad Hamilton recorded an assist. Goalkeepers Chris McDonald and Logan Deese combined for the shutout. McDonald played 72 minutes before being replaced by Deese.

Richmond coach Bennie Howard credited a lineup change in helping his team be more effective offensively.

“I put Armando in at forward and started Johnny Juarez at center-mid,” Howard said. “We moved the ball around a whole lot better. We hit the post three times tonight. We had a good practice yesterday and we played like we practiced.”

Richmond (5-0-1) will return to action 6 p.m. Tuesday when it plays host to North Moore at the Ninth Grade Academy.

In the junior varsity game, Jacob Suskie netted two goals and Rogelio Reyes added another as Richmond slipped past Overhills 3-1.

The victory improves the Raiders to 4-0 on the season. The JV team will return to the field at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 12 in its Southeastern Conference opener at home against Hoke County.
