The Order of the Long Leaf Pine was awarded to three Richmond County citizens on Feb. 22. Issued by Gov. Pat McCrory, the awards were in recognition of past community service, in addition to being strongly involved with the Discovery Place KIDS-Rockingham project. It is the highest community service award made by the governor. Receiving the awards were, front row from left, J. Neal Cadieu, Dr. John S. Stevenson and Russell E. Bennett. Making the presentations of behalf of the governor were, second row from left, State Rep. Ken Goodman and State Senator Gene McLaurin. These citizens join the ranks of others like Maya Angelou, Andy Griffith, Billy Graham and Oprah Winfrey.
