The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following at Hillside Memorial Park. Rev. Thomas Johnson, Rev. Randle Snead will officiate the service.
Rev. Murphy was born Jan. 28, 1924, in Columbia S.C. to the late Richard H. and Ada Hudson Murphy. Rev. Murphy was the husband of 64 years to the late Alberta S. Murphy. He was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W.II, served under Gen. McArthur and received two Purple Hearts and many other medals for his service to his country.
Rev. Murphy was a retired State Overseer for the Church of God of Prophecy serving the states of North Carolina, Wisconsin, Louisiana and Tennessee. Rev. Murphy was the former pastor of the Church of God of Prophecy in Laurinburg and many other churches that had the honor of his 60 years in the ministry. He will be remember for his love of his Lord and his family.
Rev. Murphy was also preceded in death by siblings Newton Murphy, Juddie Murphy, Leatha Rising and Bennie Murphy.
He leaves to cherish his memory sons, Vance “Boyd” Murphy and wife Nancy of Douglasville Ga., John Edward Murphy and wife Sherry of Dyersburg Tenn. and Rev Gerald T. Murphy and wife Hope of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughters, Letha Norris and husband Ty of Rose Hill, Elaine Chavis of Hamlet and Marilyn Johnson and husband Greg of Asheboro; a sister Elizabeth M. Whisennant and husband Troy of West Columbia S.C.; and 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation was on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, from 6 - 8 p.m., at Richard Boles Funeral Service of Laurinburg.
