Ray Von Chambers, 57, of Ellerbe, died Jan. 25, 2011. Mr. Chambers was born Feb. 5, 1957, in Montgomery County to Gertrude Chambers Townsend and the late Lee J. Thomas.
He was a graduate of Richmond Senior High School. Mr. Chambers served in the United States Army and was also a textile worker. He was a member of Macedonia Church of God.
Survivors include his mother, Gertrude C. Townsend; grandmother, Katie Chambers of Rockingham; one son, Von R. Smith of Greensboro; two brothers, Horrace Townsend of Raleigh and Anthony Townsend of Hamlet; three sisters, Melinda Watkins of Rockingham, Peggy Steele and Wanda McDonald, both of Ellerbe; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, from 1 - 7 p.m. at McLendon Funeral Home in Ellerbe.
Funeral services will be Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at 3 p.m. at Macedonia Church of God in Ellerbe. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
McLendon Funeral Home in Ellerbe is serving the family.
