ROCKINGHAM — Coming off its second shutout of the season, Richmond Senior held steady in this week’s Associated Press poll.

The Raiders (7-0) finished with 103 points to remain third in the rankings after rolling past Purnell Swett 56-0.

Butler and New Bern were once again first and second this week. The Bulldogs, which grabbed all 13 first-place ballots, moved to 7-0 on the season with a 49-0 win over Ardrey Kell. The Bears also improved to 7-0 following their 39-7 victory over previously unbeaten Hoggard.

The next five spots remained the same from last week. Porter Ridge (7-0) was fourth, Mallard Creek (6-1) checked in at fifth, followed by Garner (8-0), East Forsyth (8-0) and Scotland (7-1), the only other Southeastern Conference school in the poll.

North Davidson (8-0) and E.E. Smith (7-1) made appearances in the rankings for the first time this season. The Knights are ninth after routing Reagan 45-14, while the Golden Bulls upset Jack Britt 37-20.

Richmond dropped one spot in this week’s NCPreps.com poll from second to third despite receiving a first-place vote. Butler received the other nine top ballots to retain the No. 1 ranking. New Bern jumped from third to second to edge the Raiders by two points.

Mallard Creek was fourth, East Forsyth was ranked fifth and Garner checked in at No. 6. Porter Ridge and Scotland remained seventh and eighth. Leesville Road (7-0) and North Davidson were both ranked for the first time this year. The Pride are ninth and the Knights are 10th.

After changes for the last few weeks, the CarolinaPreps.com poll was unchanged. Butler snagged all 13 first-place votes to remain in the top spot. Richmond was second, five points better than New Bern. Mallard Creek was fourth, followed by East Forsyth.

Scotland, Porter Ridge, Garner, North Davidson and Independence (7-1) rounded out the top 10.

Richmond stayed steady in the Maxpreps.com rankings this week, remaining at No. 4. New Bern jumped over Butler to move into the top spot, while East Forsyth was third. Mallard Creek, Porter Ridge, New Hanover (6-1), Scotland, North Davidson and Independence completed the top 10.

Unlike the other polls which tabulates votes from writers across the state, Maxpreps.com uses computer-based rankings. The program takes into consideration quality wins against other highly-ranked opponents as well as strength of schedule.
