WINSTON-SALEM — The Region 4 Powerade State Games baseball team, which includes three players from Richmond Senior, dropped its opening contest Thursday night.
The squad from Region 6, which is from the Charlotte area, rolled to a 12-3 victory at BB&T Ballpark. The field is the home of the minor league team Winston-Salem Dash, the Class A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.
In the loss, Drew Butler went 1 for 2 with three stolen bases, while Bradley Brown was 1 of 1 with a run batted in. Jeremy Smith was hitless in his only at-bat.
Region 4 returned to action Friday against the team from Region 8, which is from the western part of the state at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Region 4 squad remained winless, falling 5-3.
The Region 4 team will conclude its three-game round-robin competition today at 4 p.m. against Region 2 at Wake Forest. The Region 2 squad consists of players from the Wilmington area. The winner of the contest will finish third in Bracket B.
The teams from Region 6 and 8 will battle for Bracket B championship at 1 p.m.
The medal round contests are slated for Sunday. The third- and fourth-place teams from each bracket will play at Glenn High School beginning at 9:30 a.m., while the top teams will battle for the gold and bronze at Wake Forest.
