ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior athletic department released next season’s football and volleyball schedules this week.

The Raider football team, which finished last year with an 8-3 record and an appearance in the 4A state playoffs, will face seven teams which qualified for the postseason. Richmond will participate in the Highway 70 Jamboree at Clayton on Aug. 9 where it will take on Garner, last season’s 4AA runner-up. The next night, the Raiders will return home for a three-team scrimmage with North Davidson and Glenn.

Richmond will open its 2012 season with two road contests, beginning with Sun Valley on Aug. 17. The following Friday, the Raiders will travel to Sanford to take on Lee County. Richmond will open its home slate with back-to-back contests with Anson on Aug. 31 and South View on Sept. 7. The Raiders will close out their nonconference schedule by traveling to West Forsyth on Sept. 14

After an open date, Richmond will play host to Hoke County to start Southeastern Conference play on Sept. 28. The Raiders will then travel to Robeson County in consecutive weeks to face Purnell Swett and Lumberton. Richmond will close out its regular season with home games against Pinecrest and defending 4A state champion Scotland.

The Richmond Senior volleyball team will have a new coach in Shellie Wimpey and opens the season at home against Union Pines on Aug. 13. The Raiders have 21 matches on their schedule, 11 at home.

Richmond have two nonconference matches against Anson County, Marlboro Academy, Marlboro County, South Robeson and Union Pines. The Raiders open their SEC schedule at Hoke County on Sept. 6.

The Richmond boys soccer, girls tennis and cross country schedules are still being finalized according to RSHS athletic director Kevin Mabe.
