Robert Clyde Hayes Sr., age 86, of Wilmington, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Bob was born on July 9, 1926, in Richmond County, son of the late John Hayes and Sarah Huff Hayes.
Bob was a member of Winter Park Presbyterian Church. He retired from Southern Bell after 37 years of service. Upon his retirement, he pursued yet another career of golfing and working on the various golf courses. He worked for many years at Echo Farms where he met many lifelong friends. He was a man who knew no strangers. He was a Christian who loved his family and worked to make the best life he could for them. He never forgot his classmates from hamlet High School Class of 1944.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife Lorene. He is survived by his sons, Bob, Jr. (Vicki), Ronnie (Diane); daughter, Becky; nephews, John and Larry, and his dear cousin Louise Thomas of Hamlet, NC; 2 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 20th from 11:00 to 1:00 PM at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC 28403. Graveside service to follow at 1:30 PM at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28412. Rev. Emile Harley and Rev. Bill Millholland will be officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Winter Park Presbyterian Church or the charity of one’s choice.
Special thanks are given to the Doctors, nurses and all caregivers at NHRMC. The care shown to our Father and to our family could not have been any more professional and courteous. From the very moment we arrived there was a sense of caring for which we will ever be grateful.
