Police look into house fire

The Hamlet Police Department reported a suspicious fire on Oct. 13 at a residence on West Avenue in Hamlet. Damage was estimated at approximately $80,000. One of the homeowners was at home sleeping while the other was at work. There were no injuries. The Hamlet Police Department is still investigating the fire.

Other incidents reported by the Hamlet Police Department include:

A report of breaking and entering with larceny was reported at a residence on Charlotte Street.

A report of theft of a lap top computer was taken. The theft occurred on Hamlet Lake Court.

Cooper gas line was reported stolen from a church on Monroe Avenue.

A report of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and theft of credit cards and Social Security card was reported at a business on Highway 74.

Possession of a weapon on school premises was reported at a school campus on Highway 74.

A report of breaking and entering with larceny was reported at an apartment complex in Hamlet.

An air-conditioning unit was reported stolen from a business on West Hamlet Avenue.

Breaking and entering and larceny of a motor vehicle was reported on High Street.

A report of identity theft was taken from a resident on Poplar Street.

A residence on Charlotte Street in Hamlet reported theft of solar lights from their yard.

Injury to personal property was reported at an apartment complex in Hamlet.

Arrests reported by the Hamlet Police Department include:

Margaret McCray, 47, High Point, was arrested and charged with second degree trespassing. Bond was set at $1,000.

Christopher Albert Little, 46, of Perry Williams Road, Hamlet, was arrested and charged with order for arrest on possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was set at $1,000.

Derrick Mitchell, 28, Raleigh Street, Hamlet, was arrested and charged with communicating threats. He was released on a written promise to appear in court.

Gregory Locklear, 47, West Hamlet Avenue, Hamlet, was arrested and charged with begging; indirect solicitation. Bond was set at $500.

Shawn David Arnold, 20, Laray Avenue, Hamlet, was arrested and charged with 13 counts of fraud - obtaining money/property by false pretenses and 13 counts of possession/concealing stolen property. Bond was set at $10,000.00
