The first event of the North Carolina Youth Shooting Foundation will begin today at DeWitt’s Outdoor Sports in Ellerbe.

Today marks the second year of the NCYSF, organized by Rick Mitchell.

Registration for the event begins at 9:30 a.m. and shooting begins at 10 a.m. This will be a 50 bird competition. Cost is $20 for the tournament and $5 for a 15-bird warm-up on the 5-stand. Rookie, Intermediate and Advanced shooters will compete on the Sporting Clays course and the Beginner class will be instructed and compete at the 5-stand.

Lunch is provided at no charge to the shooters and will be available for $5 for all others. Trophies will be awarded to 1st and 2nd place winners in each class.

“What a great way to bring the kids together and usher in our Fall season,” said Mitchell. “We completed our 1st year in July with a total of 74 youth shooters registered with the NCYSF. We hope to see you all there.”

This year there are new safety rules. The N.C. Youth Shooting Foundation’s primary interest is to keep everyone safe. They have adopted safety rules for the 5-stand and on-course shooting. There will be a range safety officer present at each shoot to explain and insure the rules are being followed.
