The Sandhills Stadium 10 in Southern Pines added a unique tech upgrade to the theater seating, for all the die-hard movie lovers searching for a more in-depth movie experience.
The D-BOX MFX Seats move in perfect synchronization with on-screen action, with the promise of immersing customers in the movie.
Sandhills Stadium 10 is the first theater in Southern Pines to add 26 of these seats, which have already proven to be a big hit with fans in other theaters.
“Once you sit in a D-BOX equipped seating for more than a few minutes and watch an extended scene or an entire movie, you become part of the movie. You will be engaged with the film in a whole new way. You will live the action,” the company promises.
The company also promises that motion sickness is not a cause for concern in the seats, and that intensity can be adjusted.
The seats can be reserved in advance, at the time of ticket purchase. They are located in the middle of the theater and are numbered. There’s also a D-BOX demo set up in the theater lobby, with a mild movement setting.
“I’ve seen people trying the demo seats out in the lobby, and they seem to really like them,” said Sandhills Stadium 10 employee Travis Collins. “Most people jump out of the seats laughing, so I think they’re going to be a big hit.”
Collins said the theater ran a couple of showings of “The Hunger Games” with the new seats in operation, but the “big reveal” was set for last night, with the opening of Marvel’s “The Avengers.”
“‘The Avengers’ is full of action, and the perfect movie to show with these seats,” said Collins.
New D-BOX films are planned to release every two weeks. D-BOX seating is an additional $8.
The jury is still out on whether the moving seats will be a distraction for other movie-goers sitting nearby.
