Mary E. Washington-Smith, of Dobbins Heights, died Nov. 16, 2012.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at New Bethel AME Zion Church in Hamlet. Burial will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park.
The public viewing will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 19, at 302 Bridgers St., Hamlet.
She was born on March 29, 1943, to the late Frank and Corrine Washington. Washington-Smith graduated from Monroe Avenue High School and was employed at Fairview Heights Elementary School. She was also a member of New Bethel AME Zion Church. Two sisters preceded her in death, Vivian Liles and Brenda Staton.
Washington-Smith is survived by her husband, Rufus Smith; one daughter, Jeanette Burnett of Hamlet; one son, Lester Von Washington of Woodbridge, Va.; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, three sisters, Bertha (James) Woodard of Hamlet, Doney Washington of Rockingham, Frances Freeman of Milwaukee, Wis.; seven brothers, Frank (Tommie) Washington of Mississippi, Alvin (Patricia) Washington of Orangeburg, S.C., Julius of Hempstead N.Y., Harold Washington of Baltimore, Md., Luther (Sonja) of Cheltenham, Md. , Nathaniel Washington (Kim) of Elkridge Md., Michael Washington of Suitland, Md.; one adopted brother, Alvin Dixon of Hamlet.
