An Aberdeen man has been arrested and charged with the murder of a 45-year-old man who died from a gunshot wound early Monday morning, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Marcus Jason McLean, 23, of 1706 N. Poplar St. in Aberdeen, was charged with first degree murder after he allegedly fatally shot Silas Locklear Jr. of 114 Meadow Lane in Hoffman, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a “shots fired” call at 130 Rivers Run in Hoffman at approximately 1:30 a.m. Monday, where they found a gunshot victim with “life threatening injuries,” a sheriff’s report said.

Locklear was transported to Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst by FirstHealth and members of Hoffman Fire and Rescue. Officials said he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Chief Deputy Mark Gulledge of the Sheriff’s Office said the murder was the result of a “dispute between neighbors.”

McLean was arrested in Moore County by members of the Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team. Chief Deputy Gulledge said the Moore County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the arrest.

McLean was placed in the Richmond County Jail under no bond, where lawmen said he will await a court date on Aug. 2.

According to the North Carolina Department of Correction website, both men have prior criminal histories, including several assault on a female and DWI convictions for Locklear, and various assault and carry concealed weapon offenses for McLean.
