Mrs. Kitty Mae Chavis, 74, of Hamlet, died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at Richmond County Hospice Haven. She was born Jan. 2, 1937, in Marlboro County, S.C., a daughter of the late James Wallace Patrick and Kathleen Atkinson Patrick. Mrs. Chavis retired from Legg’s Hosiery and worked with KFC after retirement.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet with Pastor Jennie McLean and Dr. Fred D. McQueen Jr. officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lois Chavis and fifteen of her siblings.

Surviving are her children, Lois Matuszewski of Shallotte, Martha Ann Griggs of Hamlet, John Thomas Chavis of the home, and Scottie Chavis of Cordova; a brother, Herbert ‘Hoover’ Patrick of Cordova; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 N. US 1 Hwy., Rockingham, NC 28379.

Just to say that I am so sorry for your loss. I am glad I had the opportunity to speak with Ms.Chavis while I was there to visit my grandfather.
