James William McLean, 91, died peacefully at home Tuesday February 26, 2013.

Bill was born in Rockingham, NC on February 19, 1922 to the late Commodore Perry McLean, Jr. and Mary Rennie Thomas McLean.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mildred G. McLean; sons Perry McLean, Gary McLean and wife Lynsey: grandchildren Kelly, Megan, Nikki, Keith, Katie, and Dean; sisters Wilma, Aileen, and Dot; sister-in-law Faye Fields; brother-in-law Ray Brown; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by son Bryon and his sister Betty.

Bill served in the US Army, 99th Artillery Division during WWII in Germany during the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Bronze Star. Bill later served a term as Post Commander of the VFW, Rockingham, NC. He was a lifetime Mason. He worked for Carolina Power and Light, retiring with 37 years of service.

Bill’s lifelong interest was fishing which he pursued with passion. He was always eager to go “wet a hook” with family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 6:00 -8:00 pm at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines, NC. A Graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at the Richmond Co. Cemetery in Rockingham, NC.
