The battles of the Civil War are well known and studied. Life back home for the families of the men at war was not as dramatic.

The life back home of one of the war’s most famous soldiers, Gen. Robert E. Lee, will be presented to the Richmond County Historical Society on May 17 at 7 p. m. at the Rockingham City Hall.

Nora Brooks will portray Mildred Childe Lee, youngest daughter of Gen. Lee. A teenager during the war, Miss Lee worried over her father’s safety and remained very close to him until his death in 1870.

Honored many times for her first person historical presentation on the life of Anna Morrison Jackson, widow of Gen. Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson, Brooks will appear in authentic costume of the time of Miss Lee.

A teacher in the Union County public schools, Brooks has given performances at special events in Virginia, North and South Carolina. Last year she was awarded the North Carolina Inspirational Teacher Award by North Carolina State University.

Her program for the Historical Society is open to the public.
