The Hamlet Police Department recently arrested Ronald Eugene Richardson, 20, of 1101 S. Long Dr., Rockingham, for felony possession of cocaine, simple possession of a schedule VI controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to police reports, officers responded to a call on Feb. 19 from a female subject who said her door was being kicked and several subjects were attempting to gain entry into her apartment. Upon arrival, officers were notified by a group of people outside that there were male subjects inside the apartment with a gun. The female subject allegedly gave lawmen consent to enter her apartment where they advised the male subjects to show their hands. According to reports, police smelled a strong odor and observed Richardson putting his hand into the cushion of the chair where he sat.

Richardson was advised to stand before being handcuffed, reports said. Police searched the living room and found a clear plastic bag with a white substance that appeared to be crack cocaine, along with a marijuana rolled cigarette in the cushion of the chair, reports said. Richardson was charged with possession of cocaine. He later acknowledged that the $2,400 found on his person was from selling cocaine, police said. Richardson was released on a written promise to appear in court.
