Members of the Pee Dee Guard will be setting-up camp outside the Leak-Wall House on Dec. 5 as part of a living history event for young and old.
“We’d really like to see some young people there,” J.A. Bolton with the Pee Dee Guard said. “It’s a living history sort of thing and people can learn from it.”
For the second year, the Pee Dee Guard will make camp, don heavy wool uniforms and fabricate a sense of realism and time travel to the Civil War era -this year as Confederate soldiers.
Prior to this year, they served as Union Soldiers in a similar exhibit.
According to Bolton, the camping event acts as a fundraiser of sorts, as well as raise awareness of what the Pee Dee Guard does.
“People will be able to sample the stuff we cook and what we make,” J.A. Bolton said.
A few of the guardsman will be making and selling replica Civil War era pipes, soap and other a sundry items.
Additionally, according to Bolton, the majority of the weaponry, authentic and antique, is hands-on and some may even be allowed to discharge a period black powder rifle or hold a Calvary sword.
The Pee Dee guard will pitch the tens, cook and exhibit what they know, in part through the historical society in Richmond County.
The guard also works with similar reenactors in surrounding counties like Scotland and Montgomery County on larger events.
The Leak-Wall House is located on U.S. 1 in Rockingham.
Admission is free, but donations are accepted.
