North Carolina Rep. Melanie Wade-Goodwin announced Tuesday she will not seek a fourth term representing Richmond and Montgomery counties in the General Assembly.

In a statement, Goodwin said her announcement she will step down will allow her to spend more time with her young children, as well as “to focus on other personal goals in my life.”

First elected in 2004, Goodwin’s third term expires in December 2010.

“It has been a pleasure to serve the many kind, caring, and supportive people of my home,” Goodwin said. “Although we are in the midst of challenging times, I believe that Richmond and Montgomery counties have a very bright future ahead. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to give back and to make a difference.”

Oh, man, I am so hating to read that! Rep. Goodwin's done as right by this district as anybody could do. I understand the reasons she's packing it in. We'll miss her. We hope Wayne will stick around awhile.
