Gladys Leak Short, 92, of 967 Horseshoe Road, Rockingham, died on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012.

A funeral service will be Saturday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m. at Greater Diggs A.M.E. Zion Church, Superintendent Dr. Thomas C. Leak Sr. will be delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing will be held Friday, Sept. 21, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Service of Rockingham.

She was born Dec. 25, 1919, to the late Adam Daniel Leak Sr. and Anna Spencer Leak. Short was a member of Greater Diggs Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. She retired from work with over 20 years of service from Richmond Memorial Hospital.

Short was preceded in death by her husband, Zannie Short.

She is survived by four children, Superintendent Dr. Thomas C. Leak Sr. of Fayetteville, James E. Short of Accokeek, Md., Doris Short Liles of the home, Arthur G. Short of Ellerbe, one step daughter, Janice McMillian, Newark, N. J., one sister, Glennie Leak Galbreath, 27 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
