North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue this week ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities be lowered to half staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, December 7, in observance of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

Defined in Public Law 103-308, the designation memorializes the surprise attack of December 7, 1941, marking the “day of infamy” when America entered into World War II.

“All employees of the Department of Administration join Governor Perdue and me in honoring the memory of those who served their country in valor that day, and give thanks to all members of the armed services who dedicate their lives to protect our freedoms,” said Moses Carey Jr., of North Carolina Department of Administration.
