Felon arrested for weapons violation

Dennis Gregory Quick, 28, Daniels Street, Hamlet, was arrested for misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon and felony possession of a firearm by a felon around 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 13.

Quick was taken into custody after being identified by the Hamlet Police Department at a club in Hamlet.

The Hamlet PD received an anonymous tip that Quick was at The Ball Room club in Hamlet.

He was wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting earlier that night in Hamlet.

Quick was in possession of a .357 Rossi handgun and the officer on the scene discovered he had prior felony arrests.

His bond was set at $5,000.

Other arrests reported by the Hamlet Police Department include:

n Lakisha Toneill Dawkins, 27, Charlotte Street, Hamlet, was arrested for misdemeanor driving with license revoked and misdemeanor fictitious information to an officer. Bond was set at $3,000.

n Antonio Daron Hamilton, 34, W. Hamlet Ave., Hamlet, was arrested for misdemeanor secret peeping. His bond was set at $3,000.

Incidents reported to the Hamlet Police Department include:

n A homeowner on Washington Avenue reported that someone stole copper wiring from under their home, along with copper wiring from their air-conditioning unit. Damage and property loss is estimated at $4,200.

n A business on King Street reported the glass front door to the store was shattered. The only missing property was a 2-liter bottle of lemonade.

n On Lackey Street, a woman reported someone breaking her door and communicating threats.

n Two wooden rocking chairs were stolen from a home on Deering Street. Property loss was estimated at $100.

n Someone reported their car door being severely dented after leaving for work. Damage is estimated at $650.

n A business on West Hamlet Avenue reported being robbed at gun point and $500 was stolen from the store.

Accidents reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol include:

n On Sept. 11 at 12:16 a.m. on Derby Road, Robert Anthony Travis Mabe, 17, Sycamore Lane, Jackson Springs, was involved in an accident after veering off the right shoulder and hitting a tree. His vehicle came to rest facing south on Derby Road, according to reports from the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

He was taken to Moore Regional Medical Center for injuries.

Mabe was cited with failure to maintain lane control.

Damage to his 2004 Ford is estimated at $15,000.

n At 2:48 p.m. on Sept. 8 on Ledbetter Road, James Howard, 48, Aspen Street, Aberdeen, and Jarrett Ervin Peek, 35, Pineview Court, Rockingham, were involved in an accident after Howard crossed the centerline and collided with Peek.

Howard was cited with a left of center violation.

Damage to Howard’s 2001 Ford was estimated at $750 and Peek’s 2007 Chevy revived $750 in damage as well.

n On Sept. 8 at 9:33 a.m. on Ellerbe Road, Jamal Edward Bostick, 19, Jasper Nicholson Road, Ellerbe, and Portia Ann Roberts, 40, Green Lake Road, Rockingham, were involved in an accident after Bostick failed to maintain lane control, reports show. Bostick attempted to overcorrect around a curve, but skidded out-of-control and struck Roberts. Bostick was exceeding a safe speed around the curve, according to patrol reports.

A passenger with Roberts was taken to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill for injuries.

Bostick was cited with a left of center violation.

Damage to Bostick’s 1999 Chevy was estimated at $3,500 and damage to Roberts’ 2000 Pontiac was estimated at $4,500.

n On Sept. 8 at 11 a.m. on Sandhill Road, Shakita Desarae Douglas, 18, Isom Nichols Road, Rockingham, was involved in a wreck after running off the right side of the road, overcorrecting and skidding into a ditch on the left side of Sandhill Road. The vehicle continued sliding until it overturned, according to reports.

She was taken to FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital.

Douglas was cited with failure to maintain lane control.

Damage to her 1994 Toyota was estimated at $3,000.
