The Watkins/Kendall family will be returning to the Dobbins Heights Community Center for their seventh year of giving back to the community with the annual Thanksgiving Dinner. The dinner will be prepared and served by members and friends of the family at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22.
“This all started one Thanksgiving when my sister and twin brother were saying we have so much food left, we need to do this,” said one of the family matriarchs, Angeline David. “Because people loved us, so we got to love people.”
This year’s dinner will be in honor of two recently passed members of the family, Everna Kendall and Johnny Taylor, who also shared the passion of helping the less fortunate.
The dinner at the community center started off as a helping hand to the homeless and over time grew to serve citizens from all walks of life. Anyone who may be homeless, alone, elderly, disabled or just can’t afford to cook are invited.
“We have a lot of people come out just for the fellowship,” said David.
