A car accident on Clayton Carriker Road in Ellerbe has left one woman dead, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Authorities said Catherine Treece Butler, 57, of 107 Clover Hill Road, Ellerbe, was traveling southeast on Clayton Carriker Road early Thursday morning in a 2011 Chevrolet Aveo when she ran off the roadway to the left, over-corrected and ran off the right shoulder before striking a tree on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
Butler was pronounced dead at the scene.
Trooper Lee Sampson Jr. of the N.C. State Highway Patrol said no one else was in the car at the time.
According to her obituary, Butler was a homemaker and attended Good News Free Will Baptist Church.
She leaves behind her mother, Odessa B. Treece of Ellerbe; daughters, Brandie B. Pryce and Holly B. Voorhees, both of Hamlet; brothers, Jimmy Treece of Hamlet and Michael Treece of Ellerbe; and four grandchildren.
