Deputies arrest two men

Deputies with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office arrested two men on drug charges after entering their home to serve a tax warrant on Nov. 3.

According to reports, between a tax warrant on the occupant and information of illegal drug sales on the property, the sheriff’s office’s Vice/Narcotics unit arrested Michael Lee Sanders, 46, Second Avenue Aleo, Rockingham and William Andrew Sanders, 23, Second Avenue Aleo, Rockingham.

When deputies entered the home to pursue the information provided to them and to serve the warrant, they found marijuana in one of the defendants bedrooms and prescription methadone and hydrocodone in another room.

Michael Sanders was charged with felony possession with intent to sell and distribute marijuana and felony maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances. William Sanders was charged with felony possession with intent to sell and distribute marijuana and two counts of felony possession of prescription drugs.

Both men are in the Richmond County Jail under $5,000 bonds.

Other arrests reported by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office include:

n Donald Maurice Steele, 41, Mizpah Road, Rockingham, was arrested for felony possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $10,000.

n Bryan Dean Starling, 22, Loch Haven Road, Rockingham, was arrested for felony breaking and entering and felony attempted larceny. Bond was set at $10,000.

n Jerry Lee Maines, 37, U.S. Hwy. 1, Rockingham, was arrested for felony possession with of marijuana with intent to sell of distribute. Bond was set at $1,000.

Accidents reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol include:

n Tony Darrell Hewitt, 26, Steen Road, Bennettsville, was involved in an accident on Airport Road on Nov. 11 after, according to reports, he swerved to avoid a head on collision and struck an embankment. Troopers reported to the scene around 8:15 a.m.

Damage to his 2007 Chevrolet was estimated at $500.

No injuries were reported.

n On Nov. 10 on Sandhill Game Road, Zackary Wayne Troublefield, 17, E. Main Street, Ellerbe, was involved in an accident after he swerved off the road to the left, overcorrected and struck a ditch on the right side of the road.

He was transported to FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital.

n Norma Lee Jones, 52, Gordon Avenue, Hamlet, and William Earl McNeil, Waymon Chapel Road, Hamlet, were involved in an accident on RP 1627 on Nov. 10 when Jones attempted to make a left turn onto Hoffman Road. McNeil stated that a large truck was parked and blocking his view, according to reports.
