DeLette Honeycutt Sibley, 96, of Arden and formerly of Rockingham, died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at The Oaks in Arden, NC. She was born July 31, 1916 in Mecklenburg County, the oldest of eight children to the late Joseph and Mayme Robinson Honeycutt.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph L. Sibley, a son Jim Sibley, grandson Eric Sibley, and son-in-law Gary Watson.

Mrs. Sibley was a graduate of Catawba College. She started her teaching career at Great Falls School in Rockingham, became Principal at Great Falls and finished her career at the Richmond County Central Office, where she was the Assistant Superintendent. She and her husband, Joe, founded the Richmond County Memorial Park in Rockingham. Mrs. Sibley was the Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church in Concord, NC and First Baptist Church in Rockingham. She conducted Handel’s Messiah in Rockingham for many years. She started the first chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) in North Carolina. She was a member of the Rockingham Rotary Club, where she was a Paul Harris Fellow. Mrs. Sibley was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Rockingham, until moving to the Asheville area twelve years ago.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Nelson officiating. Entombment will follow at Richmond Co. Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Surviving, Her children, Anna Sibley Watson of Rockingham, Joe Sibley of Lake City, FL and Rick Sibley of Asheville. Grandchildren, Elizabeth Lemons of Charleston, SC, Joanna Watson of Rockingham, Anita Lee Dehaven of Fairfax, VA, Donna Kay Calderone of Clifton,VA, Patrick Sibley of Goldsboro, and Cedric Sibley of Asheville. Siblings, Ray Honeycutt, Joe Honeycutt, and Betty H. Williams. .

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 - 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church and other times at the home of her daughter, 143 Munn Farms Road, Rockingham.

Mrs. Sibley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend.
