The Charlotte Writers’ Club is again sponsoring its Deane Ritch Lomax Poetry Prize. Poets from North and South Carolina are encouraged to submit traditional and non-traditional styles (no haiku poems).

First place winners receive $100, second place $50, third place $25 and there will also be three honorable mention awards. The line count is limited to a maximum of 50 lines, and the deadline for submission must be postmarked by March 20. The winners will be announced on May 15, 2012. There is a $5 submission fee for CWC members and $10 for non-members.

The Charlotte Writer’s Club, established in 1922, is an organization of individuals who value the written word. It offers critique groups, workshops and monthly meetings with speakers who address a variety of topics on all forms of writing, publishing and finding the writer within. The club also sponsors numerous writing contests.
