Members of the graduating class of 1954 of Capital Highway High School-Monroe Avenue High School (CHHS-MAHS) attended a Reunion Luncheon on Sept. 1 hosted by classmate Lois Wallace Harrington, at her home, 927 Thomas Street in Rockingham.

This unique gathering of classmates honor their educational legacy, as they recall that in 1953, they began their final year of high school by attending the Historic Capital Highway High School in Hamlet, N.C. However, after the Christmas holiday vacation, they excitedly returned to complete their final semester at the new Monroe Avenue High school. Thus, these 1954 twelfth graders became the first class to ever graduate from Monroe Avenue High School.

Attending this luncheon were: Gloria Bennett Wilburn, Lillian Dawkins, Willie Frances Williams, Lois Wallace Harrington, Eva Truesdale Baker, Frank Robinson Jr. and Thomas Roary.
