William Buford McFayden, 74, of 3211 Hwy. 220 North, Ellerbe died Friday, February 13, 2009 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. He was born March 3, 1934 in Richmond County, a son of the late Lonnie A. and Lessie Harris McFayden.

Mr. McFayden was a member of Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church. He was retired with over thirty-five years of service in the Parts Department of L. G. Dewitt Trucking. He was, also, a gentleman farmer.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 15th at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church in Norman. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Hazel Howington McFayden; a daughter, Janice McFayden Watkins and husband Steve of Rockingham; three sons, David McFayden and Steve McFayden, both of Ellerbe, and Danny McFayden of Medicine Bow, WY; five grandchildren, Tamara McFayden Hyman, Amanda, Elizabeth and Trey Watkins, and Madison Wallace; five great-grandchildren, Logan, Kelbie Jo, and Nathan King, Brayden and Deighton Hyman; brothers and sisters, Helen Covington, Dot Nicholson and Ronald McFayden, all of Ellerbe, and George McFayden of Rockingham. Two sisters, Marie Nicholson and Shirley Covington, preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and other times at the home.
