Police are investigating a shooting spree which occurred in downtown Rockingham between close of business Wednesday and Thursday morning.

Thursday morning, Arts Council staff discovered two large front windows of the building at 123 E. Washington St. had been shot.

“I don’t know what happened but we have to have the windows replaced,” said Laura Daskal, executive director of Arts Richmond.

According to a police report, the damage to the windows is $4,000 total.

The two damaged windows may be connected to other similar reports, authorities said.

“Since this morning we’ve had other reports come in,” said Rockingham Police Chief Billy Kelly. “It sounds like people rode around shooting businesses with an air-soft or BB gun. A detective has been assigned to these other cases.”

According to Kelly, a vehicle was damaged on Foushee Street and a female was also shot in the downtown Rockingham area.

Police are still investigating the cases, said Kelly. The public is encouraged to come forward with any information regarding the incidents, he said.

Anyone with information is urged to call Rockingham Police Department at 910-895-2468 or call Crime Stoppers at 910-997-5454.
