To the editor:

After the hurricane blew through Richmond County and left us virtually unscathed, my cousin and I decided what we could do to help our brothers in Hoke and surrounding counties. The were hard hit and had little or nothing. Many of the guys affected work on the railroad and we wanted to help them.

We used Facebook and every other available media to let people know our plans. We would have trucks and empty trailers at different sites to take everything — especially water.

But the people of Richmond County surprised us — they brought everything from toiletries to baby diapers. And we received an ocean of water. People were calling constantly.

We had a “love convoy” rolling down 74 that day destined for our hurting friends.

Don’t sell yourself short, Richmond Countians. You blessed us with all your generosities and your will to give. We got the job done. Thanks to all of you who gave. God bless you. Thanks for giving to our brothers, who were so grateful for all our efforts.

You brought tears to our eyes and joy to our hearts.

“…because He loved us,”

Thanks.
