To the editor:
On Sept. 20, 2015, my father died the same way his father, Charlie Macon, died 34 years ago — doing what he loved, which was working.
Dad was working on his truck at a West Virginia toll booth when he suddenly fell dead from a massive heart attack.
As we get to one year since he died, I would like to say this man was my hero. A wonderful father, husband, brother, cousin and friend to all who knew him. Mom, Scott and I — and everyone who knew him — miss him tremendously.
Pee Dee Methodist Church was packed for his funeral. His brother Charles said grown men cried when they learned of his death. And Watson-King Funeral Home was wonderful with their help.
I also want to thank the deputy from the sheriff’s department for his kindness while notifying mom and me about dad’s death.
But it still hurts so much. I know one day I will see him again in Heaven.
Rest in peace, dad. We love you.
