To the editor:

Please allow me this venue to thank all the wonderful people too numerous to name for the support and love shown to my grandson, Tyler Hall.

First off, the entire Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and its deputies, Officer Jones and his support staff. This officer went way above and beyond for my grandson. His wife Faith, their daughter Gabby and the entire family. The wonderful people who showed up to give support for and to my grandson show just how wonderful the people of Richmond County truly are.

Thanks to all of you who gave support, my grandson is ready now for Richmond Early College High School, where classes began on Aug. 10.

I would like to thank Mr. Toler from the Daily Journal for his kind words and support for Tyler, He is really a great person and deserves credit in getting the word out on Tyler Day Aug. 1 at the Cordova Methodist Church parking lot. I want to thank the minister there for allowing Tyler to set up there — this church is one of the best in the county.

When we see so many problems facing the police departments all across the country, please know how lucky we are to have officers here like Corey Jones and many others on our wonderful sheriff’s department — we do simply have the finest of the fine. Officer Jones has become one of Tyler’s role models, and he could not have picked a better one than Officer Jones.

Thanks to the other unsung heroes at our sheriff’s department who put on that gun and radio each day and go out and risk their lives so we can feel safe. With all the negative things said about our town and our county, those who say these bad things have not looked at the good at all.

We may not rank high with the rating company who saw us though stats on a computer screen, but they never looked in the eyes, hearts and minds of the many many wonderful people who work and live here in Richmond County. Sure, we have some problems, but the good here surely outweighs the bad.

In closing, if I have omitted anyone, please forgive me. My heart this morning is filled with love for our neighbors and friends and all the people of Richmond County for being who and what we are.

Mr. Jones, all I can say is you are the greatest. You and Faith gave us hope and faith in our fellow county residents — because of the two of you, we can believe in our hometown and its people. They are simply the greatest. Thank you and may God bless you always.

Michael Hall
