To the editor:

Well, well, well — I saw the letter in the Daily Journal where Patti Almanza said the rebel flag would never fly in a public place again. Boy, oh boy, was she wrong.

That flag is flying in downtown Rockingham for all to see — it is even etched in stone. Now what is she going to do?

On one side of the Confederate memorial, it has “Lest we forget — 1861-1865.” On the other side, it reads, “Erected in 1930 by the Pee Dee Guards chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy of Richmond County in loving memory of our Confederate soldiers.”

And high at the top of the memorial, we can all see the rebel flag proudly etched in stone. Boy, did these 13 stars make me proud.

Go look for yourself — it is on Harrington Square right across from the Daily Journal office. This is going to be a good day.
