WILMINGTON — Colt Auman’s run to the 4A East Regional singles championship came up just short Saturday afternoon.

New Hanover’s Marshall Warren stopped Auman 6-1, 6-2 in the title match.

Earlier in the tournament, Auman opened with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Ryan Dimartino of Cape Fear. Auman knocked off New Bern’s John Cook 6-1, 6-0 to close out Friday’s competition. On Saturday, Auman downed Patrick Ryder of Laney 6-1, 6-4.

Auman will advance to next week’s state tournament at Millbrook Exchange Park in Raleigh. He will face the No. 3 seed out of the West Region in the opening round.

This will mark Auman’s second appearance in the state tournament, but the first in singles. Two years ago as a freshman, Auman teamed with his brother, Alex, to advance in doubles. The pair was bounced out in their opening game.

Richmond’s doubles team of Andrew Balzer and Brandon Ingram were eliminated in the second round Friday. Balzer and Ingram defeated Cape Fear’s Eli West and Benjamin Leavitt 6-1, 6-3. New Hanover’s Jack Sadlin and Jack Cooper knocked out the Raiders’ duo 6-2, 6-4.
