LUMBERTON — It was fitting that the Richmond Senior softball team clinched the Southeastern Conference regular season title with a shutout.
After all, the Raiders have yet to lose this season.
Summer Jacobs scattered four hits and struck out four as Richmond blanked Lumberton 5-0 Thursday to improve to 17-0 overall and 8-0 in the SEC.
The Raiders haven’t lost a regular season conference game in 21 tries, dating back to a 6-5 defeat at Purnell Swett on April 17, 2012.
Doodle Jacobs led the offensive attack for Richmond, going 4 of 4 with a run batted in. Jessica Steen was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Ashton Davenport and Summer Jacobs also knocked in a run.
“We played good tonight,” Richmond coach Wendy Wallace said. “It takes a little pressure off the team the last two games because we have clinched first place. It is a good feeling, but we still want to win those final two games.”
Richmond will return to action 10 a.m. Monday against Whiteville in the opening game of the annual Beach Diamond Tournament hosted by West Brunswick.
Track results still pending
RAEFORD — The results from Wednesday’s five-team Southeastern Conference meet at Hoke haven’t been finalized according to Richmond girls track coach Reggie Miller.
Miller said he believes his team finished with 68 points but is unsure of the final results.
At press time, neither the boys or girls results have been posted.
