RAEFORD — Nic Bullard pitched a complete-game shutout to lead Richmond Senior to a 10-0 win over Hoke in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams.

Bullard allowed five hits and struck out 11 as the Raiders improved to 5-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the SEC.

Cody Leviner had three hits — including a double — and four runs batted in. Matt Pettit had two hits. Richmond finished the game with 10 hits total.

Richmond scored four runs in the first and sixth and added two more in the third.

“It was a strong performance by Nic,” Richmond coach Ricky Young said. “We did a good job of hitting with runners in scoring position. We have an important game Monday night against (Purnell) Swett.”

Purnell Swett come-from-behind to knock off Scotland in its SEC opener, 9-6.

The Rams and the Raiders will square off 7 p.m. Monday at Raider Field. The game was moved forward a day because of the threat of rain on Tuesday.

RSHS soccer drops SEC opener

RAEFORD — Richmond allowed four second-half goals in a 6-3 loss to Hoke in the Southeastern Conference opener for both schools.

The Raiders (1-3-1, 0-1) opened the scoring on a goal by Abigail Alcocer. The Bucks responded with two of their own to take a 2-1 halftime lead.

Richmond’s Cherie Ellerbe knotted the game in the opening minutes of the second half, before Hoke netted two straight to take control the game.

“We had a plethora of mistakes tonight,” Richmond coach Bennie Howard said. “We gave up a PK (penalty kick) on a mistake.”

Richmond will return to action 7 p.m. Monday at Raider Stadium against Purnell Swett.

Raiders blank Rams

ROCKINGHAM — For the second consecutive match, Richmond Senior defeated its tennis opponent without losing a set.

This time Richmond knocked off Purnell Swett 9-0 Friday afternoon at home.

Brandon Ingram and Zach Leberth both defeated their opponents 6-0, 6-0. Ingram stopped Ranier Harding in the third singles match and Leberth knocked off Tristen Oxendine at No. 6.

Colt Auman cruised past Dylan Brooks 6-1, 6-0 in the top singles contest, while Andrew Balzer downed Kendrick Locklear 6-2, 6-1. John Pittman beat Matt Basinger 6-0, 6-1 and Ryan Watkins rolled past Cody Hunt 6-2, 6-0.

Richmond’s top two doubles teams downed their opponents by the same score, 8-2. Balzer and Ingram stopped Brooks and Locklear, while Auman and Pittman defeated Basinger and Harding. Watkins and Leberth knocked off Terry Lowry and Hunt 8-1.

The team will return to the courts 4 p.m. Monday at home against East Montgomery. The Raiders are now 5-1 overall and 4-1 in SEC play.
