PEMBROKE — The Richmond Senior junior varsity football team rolled to a 47-8 road victory over Purnell Swett Thursday night.
It was the third straight game the Raiders have scored at least 47 points.
Tyler Calhoun, Josh Ellerbe, Shawn Faulk and Quientel Goodwin all scored touchdowns for Richmond, which led 33-0 at the end of the first quarter and 47-0 at halftime.
“We played well and we played hard,” Richmond JV coach Jason Norton said. “The defense also played well. We came out with much more enthusiasm. I’m proud of their effort tonight.”
Norton added his team was limited to one possession in the second half because of long Purnell Swett drives and a running game clock.
The Raiders improve to 7-0 on the season and 2-0 in Southeastern Conference action.
Richmond will return to action 7 p.m. Thursday when it travels to Lumberton.
Rockingham downs Ellerbe
ROCKINGHAM The Rockingham Middle School football team downed Ellerbe 40-14 Wednesday afternoon.
The Rockets’ Dante Miller ran for three touchdowns and Bobby Terry, Kristian McCray and Kaleb Douglas each added one of their own in the victory.
Armaade Horton had a kickoff return for a score and added the 2-point conversion for the Wildcats. Tyrese Clark had the other touchdown for Ellerbe in the loss.
Rockingham (3-0) will return to action at Anson next week and Ellerbe (1-2) will welcome Hamlet to the Wildcat Den.
