Vikings sweep Raiders

ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior volleyball team remained winless this season after being swept by Union Pines Monday night.
The Vikings edged the Raiders 28-26 in Game 1, before rolling in the final two games 25-11 and 25-9.
Richmond has yet to win a game in any of its three matches.
“We played our best game of the year in the first game,” Richmond coach Shellie Wimpey said. “We had so much momentum going into the second game. For some reason it was turned off and we never got it back.
“We just aren’t consistent at all. We need to learn how to be consistent.”
Richmond will return to the court 6 p.m. Wednesday at Anson.
Jack Britt downs Richmond
FAYETTEVILLE — After having to wait a week to begin its season, the Richmond boys soccer team may have wished to have delayed it a little longer.
Jack Britt scored four second-half goals to pull away for a 6-1 victory Monday night.
“The scores doesn’t indicate the way we played,” Richmond coach Bennie Howard said. “We played well, we had our opportunities to score but we didn’t.”
Armando Garcia netted the Raiders’ lone goal.
“It’s not the way we wanted to start our season,” Howard said. “We had five yellow cards and a red card. We lost our composure.”
Richmond (0-1) will welcome Union Pines to Raider Stadium 7 p.m. Wednesday.
In the junior varsity contest, Alex Alvarado scored the contest’s only goal to lead Richmond to a 1-0 victory.
