Richmond tennis falls to Pinecrest

ROCKINGHAM — Peter Ligeler was the only Raider to win a match Tuesday afternoon as the Richmond Senior tennis team fell 1-8 to Pinecrest.

Ligeler won the No. 1 singles match in three games (6-3, 3-6, 10-8) over Aidan Temple.

Ryan Watkins would get close to winning the first game in the No. 2 singles, losing 5-7, but fell 0-6 in the second game.

Ligeler and Andy Bailey had the best finish in the No. 2 doubles match, falling 6-8 to Rock Meacham and Jacob Nixon.

The tennis team has a quick turnaround, as the Raiders will travel to Laurinburg today to face Scotland at 4 p.m.

Rockingham Middle sweeps Ellerbe

ELLERBE — The Ellerbe Middle School baseball team fell to Rockingham 8-4 on Monday afternoon.

Zac Mabe pitched five innings in the loss for Ellerbe, giving up eight runs on three hits and recorded three strikeouts. Marshall Barnum threw a scoreless sixth and seventh inning and added a strikeout.

Mabe, Barnum, River Meacham and Gavin Russell all picked up hits for Ellerbe, which falls to 1-2 on the season.

Tyler King led the visiting Wildcats, going 3-4 and scoring two runs.

Ellerbe’s softball team also fell to Rockingham, losing 16-0, and now sits at 0-3 overall.

Both teams are off until April 4, as they will travel to Sandy Grove Middle School.

Church softball to meet April 4

ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Church Softball League will hold its first organizational meeting at Freedom Baptist Church on U.S. 1 North at 7 p.m. Monday, April 4.

Any church that wishes to have a team in the league this year must have a representative at the meeting.

Rosters must be turned in and the entry fee will be collected at the meeting. The next meeting schedules will also be passed out.
