Ann Lenox Gore Spencer, 70, of Winston-Salem, N.C., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, surrounded by family and friends.
She was born in Wake County on Feb. 21, 1943. She was the daughter of Daniel Lenos and Roberta Clyde Edwards Gore.
Ann graduated from Wake Forest University in 1965 with a degree in Biology and from North Carolina State with a graduate degree in Genetics. She was a Biology and Genetics professor at the College of Southern Maryland for 30 years and retired to Winston-Salem in 1997. Ann was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, G. Rhett Spencer III; son, G. Rhett Spencer IV; daughter-in-law, Doraine; daughter, Dana Spencer Alligood; son-in-law, Jeffrey E. Alligood; sister, Claudia Gore Cockman; brother-in-law, I.L. Cockman; and five grandchildren, Spencer, Anna, Zach, Rhett V. and Sam.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Centenary United Methodist Church. Rev. Mark Ralls will be officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at their home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice & Palliative Care at 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem NC 27103 or to Athena’s Run for Gynecologic Cancers at 1010 Bethesda Court, Winston-Salem NC 27103.
