Joyce Moon Cochrane, 70, of Matthews, N.C., went to be with her Lord on Tuesday morning, Oct. 15, 2013, at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born Tuesday, July 6, 1943, in Hamlet. She was one of four children to the late Johnnie Jo Moon and Swannie Atkinson Moon. Mrs. Cochrane was a graduate of Hamlet High School and had worked as an insurance agent with various insurance agencies. She was also co owner of Southeastern Insurance Brokers.

Joyce was a faithful member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church where she was a member of the church choir and the Joyful Servants Sunday school class.

She was affectionately known to her grandchildren as “Maw Maw.” Her grandchildren’s love for her is exceeded only by her love for them.

A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she is survived by her husband of 49 years, Kenneth Earl Cochrane, Sr. of Matthews; a son, Kenneth Earl Cochrane, Jr. and wife, Jennifer Hutkowski Cochrane of Indian Trail; a daughter, Kelly Cochrane Gainey and husband, Stephen Bruce Gainey of Asheboro; four loving grandchildren, Kaitlyn Ann Gainey, Jacob Stephen Gainey, Aaron Kenneth Cochrane and Abigail Rose Cochrane; a sister, Mary “Sis” Moon Keller of Mint Hill; two brothers, James “Brother” Moon of Raleigh and Jimmie Moon and his wife, Doris of Pinehurst.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Joshua Patt, Dr. Asim Amin and their nurses and staff for the love and support that was given.

The Cochrane family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. on Oct. 19 at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church. A service to celebrate the life of Joyce Cochrane will follow at 1 p.m. in the sanctuary. Burial will follow in the Cochrane family plot at Mt. Harmony Church Cemetery.
