Mrs. Edith Morris Jones, 87, of Hamlet passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at her home. She was born October 24, 1925 in Portsmouth, Va., a daughter of the late Bertha Elizabeth Cooper Morris and Joseph Wade Morris.
Mrs. Jones was retired with the City of Hamlet, where she served as assistant town clerk for many years.
A service to celebrate Mrs. Jones’ life will be conducted graveside 5:30 p.m. Friday, September 27th in Mary Love Cemetery in Hamlet with Rev. Joe B. Wilkes, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. prior to the service at the home.
Mrs. Jones is survived by a son, Glenn Jones and wife Robin Ward of Pittsboro; grandchildren, Nicole Jones Wilkes and husband Joe Wilkes III, Nicholas Jones, Jennifer Jones, Gracie Jones, and Annie Lunsford; great grandchildren, Gage and Tate Jones, and Noah Wilkes; two daughters-in-law, Janet Jones of Hamlet and Michiko Jones; and a sister-in-law, Grace Stewart. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Watson B. Jones; two sons, Joseph Allan Jones and Owen Vernon Jones, and a sister-in-law, Ruby Jones.
