Edward Douglas McGee, 80, of 138 Fourth St., Cordova, N.C., died Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham.
He was born December 22, 1933 in Richmond County, a son of the late Lacy and Katie Bell Henry McGee. He was the owner of McGee and Son’s Contractors, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a lifelong member of Jefferson Park Free Will Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Virginia Conner, Lacy McGee Jr. and Elsie Cox.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lois Campbell McGee of the home; one daughter, Lori McGee Pike of Cordova; and sons, Jeffrey D. McGee (Sandra Lynch), Randy McGee (Cathy) all of Cordova and Jake McGee (Kim) of Rockingham. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Mandy McGee, Chad McGee, Shannon McGee, Megan Cribb, Josh McGee, Stephanie McGee, Casey Pike and Hunter McGee; and two great-grandchildren, Cy Cribb and Cullen McGee. Three people that were like his own children, William and Bridget Greene and Crystal Goodwin. His brother, A. Wayne McGee of Marietta, Ga., and sisters, Maxine Carpenter of Peachland and Anna Kutz of Greensboro.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at Jefferson Park Free Will Baptist Church and other times at the home.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Jefferson Park Free Will Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Roger Webster. Burial with military honors will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park.
