LAURINBURG — A 31-year-old Lumberton man is being held in the Scotland County jail under a $100,000 bond on charges of holding up an Internet sweepstakes hall at gunpoint, according to Laurinburg police.

Dedrick Moody, of 1005 Blunt St., was arrested Saturday and charged with two counts each of armed robbery and second-degree kidnapping, according to Assistant Police Chief Cliff Sessoms.

Sessoms said Moody entered the store a little before 5 p.m., wielded a handgun and ordered an employee and a customer into the businesses’ bathroom before taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. He also took a cellphone and keys from the customer, according to Sessoms.

Sessoms said the incident is still under investigation. No one was harmed during the robbery, and the customer’s items were recovered.

Scotland County law enforcement are expected to begin shutting down the county sweepstakes businesses still in operation Tuesday morning, according to a statement released earlier this year. Many Internet sweepstakes parlors, which have operated under questionable legality, have closed their doors, some shutting down just before midnight Monday.
