ROCKINGHAM — Richmond Community Theatre will host a two-week children’s acting day camp July 21-Aug. 1.
The Young People’s Theatre program is planned for two age groups, ages 8-10 and 11-13. Tuition is $60 per child, due before July 12. Children will work on an original play about silly superheroes. The program will culminate in a final performance at 7 p.m. at Cole Plaza outside City Hall on Aug. 1. The performance is free and open to the public.
Tuition includes 30 contact hours over two weeks with multiple arts teachers. Children will make their own masks and be able to keep the. They will receive a camp T-shirt and the camp will conclude with a pizza party.
Before the performance, the camp will hold a children’s parade from Harrington Square, just outside of the theatre and the Daily Journal, to Cole Plaza where all children from the community are invited to dress as superheroes and walk with actors from the theater to the performance space.
Registration will be accepted by mail or through Brown Paper Tickets June 21 through July 10. Mail a completed registration form and tuition payment for each child registering to Richmond County Theatre, P.O. Box 635, Rockingham NC, 28380. There will be two dates to register in person at the Rockingham Farmers Market between 10 a.m. and noon on July 5 and July 12. Registration will accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Up to 13 young people will be accepted in each age group in the program. Children must have been born between Aug. 1, 2000 and July 20, 2006 to participate.
Young People’s Theatre is funded through a Rockingham Rotary Club grant.
