MARSHVILLE — A Union County man has been charged in two killings — one from two years ago and one from two decades ago.
Eddie Clyde Helms, 61, of Marshville, is accused in the November 1988 homicide of John T. Griffin III in Peachland, Anson County Sheriff Tommy Allen said.
Griffin was shot to death while installing a TV antenna on his roof, according to Allen.
Helms was also charged in the 2012 Union County killing of Charles Ronald Godwin.
Union County sheriff’s deputies and State Bureau of Investigation agents arrested Helms around 6:30 a.m. in his Marshville home.
He is being held without bond in the Union County Jail in Monroe pending a court date of Sept. 22 for the Anson County charge and Sept. 30 for the Union County offenses.
A news conference announcing the arrest is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
