MONROE — Southern States will open a 12,000 square-foot feed and farm supply store next month, the company has announced.
The new store on East Roosevelt Boulevard in Monroe is scheduled to open for business on Aug. 29.
The agriculture industry adds $70 billion annually to the state’s economy and accounts for 18 percent of its income,” Southern States spokesman Chris Carter said in a release. “There is a need for a one-stop shop for farmers and rural Americans in southern North Carolina to be able to buy all of the products and equipment they need to cultivate their land, raise crops and care for livestock.”
Union County has experienced steady growth over the past three years. The population has climbed to nearly 213,000 people, a 6 percent increase since 2010.
“Farmers and rural Americans raising families in the area will need a source of knowledge and know-how to keep up with the constant innovations in agricultural technology,” Carter said.
Southern States will open in the old Bi-Lo supermarket building on Roosevelt Boulevard. It will offer a broad selection of products, including fertilizer, seed, livestock feed, pet food, animal health supplies and petroleum products, according to the company.
The grand opening will feature door prizes, events and specials and coupons for merchandise.
Southern States is a Richmond, Virginia-based farm supply and service cooperative. The company has acquired more than 200,000 farmer-members and has grown to feature 1,200 retail stores in 23 states. For more information, visit www.southernstates.com.
