WADESBORO — A woman has been arrested and charged with child abuse after her two young children were found walking naked along a rural Anson County road.
Anson County Sheriff Tommy Allen reported on Monday that deputies were called to a rural area near Wadesboro on July 15. Around 1:15 p.m., Pee Dee Electric employees found two small children walking naked off Gulledge Road, about 7 miles miles south of Wadesboro.
The children — a 2-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl — were walking down the road and asked the men for food, Allen said. The Pee Dee Electric personnel immediately used shirts to cover the children and called 911.
When sheriff’s deputies arrived, the children were taken to a local volunteer fire department where they were given food, water and clothing from a volunteer. Deputies went to a home in the area but could not locate any relatives. Anson County social workers were called to the scene and took custody of the children.
Deputies later found and arrested the mother, who the sheriff’s office identified as 22-year-old Marcilla Kay Hudson of Wadesboro.
Hudson was charged with two counts each of child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She was placed in the Anson County Jail under a $2,000 bond, but later posted bond and was released.
The Anson County Department of Social Services will maintain custody until a hearing is held to decide where the children will be placed, the sheriff said.
