Barrett

SOUTHERN PINES — Police say a convicted felon caught riding a stolen mo-ped on Saturday also had a stolen gun.

Officers stopped 23-year-old Travier Lequan Barrett of Southern Pines on the 900 block of Richards Street around 3 p.m., police Capt. Charles Campbell said in a statement. Both the mo-ped and the gun allegedly found on him had been reported stolen in Moore County.

Barrett was out on bond awaiting trial on February charges of felony cocaine possession in Southern Pines, police said. He was convicted on a felony armed robbery charge in 2008 following a holdup in Taylortown.

Southern Pines police said they’ve contacted the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and will refer Barrett for federal prosecution on charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon and possession of a stolen firearm by a convicted felon.

Barrett appeared before a Moore County magistrate on the state charge of possession of a stolen mo-ped and was booked into the Moore County Detention Center in Carthage under a $20,000 secured bond.

Barrett is due in district court on the mo-ped charge June 9.
